A light with a specific color indicates the color of the box the patient has to take from. Traditionally, medications are divided up using standard trays separated by days but even some advanced patients have a hard time remember what day it is. Made of soft touch rubber, aluminum, a small circuit board, battery and LED lights. It would only cost $20. Good idea?

The beautifully cut ash frames appear to be balancing on an unsteady center point but it’s really solid granite. There’s something very modern about the execution even though it’s supposed to be a nostalgic study. I like it.

One lost key, a busted zipper and an expensive broken lock later, I decided not to take the risk of misplacing the keys ever again! Lockeeper hopes to remedy such situations and I really hope that the concept of a self locking zipper (with a Braille option) is the answer to my prayers.

Lockeeper is a 2011 Fall/Winter Spark Awards Entry.

Don’t think too much, because I have it right here for you: The Neo Noah; a modern structure with all amenities and facilities to sustain a whole township, should a natural calamity arise. Taken into consideration are open spaces, eco living and hydropower supply. The architecture is flamboyant and keeping in line with the new-age syndrome, however the efficiency can only be judged once the concept leaves the paper, manifests and is used under the predictable dire circumstances.

Changing environmental issues, living status and the impact of new energy technologies have been taken into consideration while developing this concept. Deriving inspiration from the networking and transportation techniques used by ants, E-Vul Car is proposed to work as a public booking and payment transportation system.

The designers explain, “Users can interact with the system via telephone or Internet, and the service can be linked to the home in order to reduce the use of private cars. A magnetic link is used between each car in order to reduce the consumption of electrical energy. In this way, both short and long-range travel for multiple passengers can be achieved and a more energy-efficient manner. The service connects the Internet and highway system to provide multiple services. The autopilot function reduces the risk of accidents.”

E-Vul is a 2011 red dot design concept winner.

With the Flume Tub I’m sure she will be able to just walk into the bath and use it confidently. The tub works on the principles of a seesaw and is built keeping the safety of people with restricted movements in mind. Awesome!

Flume Bathtub is a 2011 red dot design concept winner.

The entire UI and input keys are in Braille and even the touch panel reflects this system. The design and approach have a surreal finish to it and I am quite sure that Shikun Sun is on to something big with this!

It has grown to become an institution that symbolizes pioneering innovation, adaptability and a design process that empowers futuristic thinking. Entering its tenth year, 2012 marks a new chapter in the story. This year the Design Lab is looking to establish its individuality using a logo that symbolizes youth, creativity and prestige.

Electrolux in collaboration with Yanko Design present the Electrolux Design Lab LOGO Competition. We invite students from the world over to come and participate in this special prelude to the main event.

1. The Brief for Electrolux Design Lab Logo Competition

Electrolux Design Lab is the protégé of parent company Electrolux, a leading manufacturer of home appliances. The company boasts of a proud Scandinavian heritage that is reflected in its product. A decade ago the company embarked on a mission to encourage and source new talent with its Electrolux Design Lab Competition. The focus over the years has been to seek out radical concepts that make home appliances in sync with the future.
Your task is to design a sustainable logo that communicates Electrolux Design Lab as an individual brand that reflects youth, creativity and approachability.

2. Awards & Acknowledgements

A jury will select ONE winning entry that will win an all expense paid weekend to Stockholm. The trip includes travel and two nights in Stockholm and a guided tour of the Electrolux Global Design Centre.

  • The winning logo will be used in all future communications and will represent the brand Electrolux Design Lab.
  • The winning entry and designer will get full press promotions and will be well advertised and marketed through Electrolux’s media/press channels.

3. The Jury & Design Criteria

The jury is composed of experts from the Electrolux creative team. The jury will award designs which best meet the judging criteria mentioned in the brief. Submissions should be the applicant’s own creation, shall not currently be in production and shall not previously have been published or exhibited.

4. Deadline

Applicant Work submission will be accepted through Friday 9th March, 2012 (23:59.59 Pacific Standard Time).

5. Registration

The competition is an individual competition, meaning that group entries will not be accepted. Applicants are permitted to submit up to 3 individual pieces of Work.

6. Number of submissions

You can only enter the competition once by submitting maximum 3 pieces of Work.

Even before they reach landfills, the energy and resources used in their production is very intensive. On top of that, the economic burden of disposable diapers on low income families is extremely high. The solution? Go back to using cloth diapers, but what about the increased loads of laundry? Isn’t that bad for the environment too? Hit the jump. Moms know!

A spherical shaped standalone washer called the Swish combines the advantages of vertical and horizontal washers. Photovoltaic and solar thermal collectors power motors and efficently heat water. Natural ‘soap nuts’ can be grown with the sterile ‘graywater’ waste.

Remork Design Studio worked with Belgian Switch company Lithoss to come up with a series of unique switches for what normally is considered a trivial element in interior design. Ultimately they ended up with a frameless switch called the Piano. Clean, sober and simple. Hit the jump to see some of the other design projects. We’ll keep an eye out as these are supposed to launch next month.
